Hot water should always be on the left.

If trying to tighten or loosen: Lefty “Lucy”; Righty “tighty”

Waste pipes always flow down stream or down hill to the basement and out of the building.

If water pressure weakens, check the house filter by the water tank or meter. The filter cartridge maybe clogged. If only the hot water pressure weakens, the water heater tank and or coil, could be filling with sediment and may need to be purged.

If a pin hole leak in a copper or brass water pipe occur, tie a rag around the pipe where leaking and stretch the opposite end of the rag into a bucket.

If you own a septic tank, flushing a cup of brewer's yeast down the toilet once a month will add bacteria needed to dissolve solids thereby extending the time in between septic pumping.

A Little More Advanced

Galvanic action is the electrochemical reaction between two different metals joined together and immersed within a liquid. i.e. Copper pipe threadedinto a cast steel water heater will rot out. Galvanized steel is necessary between.

DO NOT, pour drain cleaner down any slow drain. If a plumber is called, he may need to pour stronger chemicals that only a licensed plumber may purchase. The chemicals sold over the counter (i.e. hardware stores or chain depots) are not strong enough and can cause the blockage to become worse.

It's time to get a new water heater if:
The tank leaks, you hear a rumbling noise, the efficiency is down from where it was previously.

The toilet needs repair:

If its leaking from the tank or the base. Also, if you hear a vibrating noise when flushed.

The garbage disposal suddenly stops:
Check the plug under the sink to see if it's still plugged in the electrical outlet. If any object falls into the disposal, DO NOT attempt to remove it on your own. A plumber must be called.

If you've called a plumber and he says, “We can do this the easy way or the expensive way,” and in taking the “easy way” smashes through the wall with a hammer. Kick him out and call me.

Never trust a plumber that shows up in a car nicer than yours.
